Whether viewing the drama and creativity of a fashion show or taking a gander through your own closet, your clothing color choices can provide a springboard to a dynamite combination in your home. In the last inspo+convo we looked to nature, and flowers specifically, to study color schemes. We see color everywhere and why not look to colors that have been put together by fashion designers who have a proven eye for color and trends.
I have a few examples that show how with a few tweaks here and there, the colors that you love to wear can also inspire your decorating schemes. Pay attention to the finishes and quantities of each color and how the saturation can shift a little while still maintaining what it is, that draws you to the colors.
Carnation Pink and Fern Green
By softening the pink and green a touch, we have a color scheme in this home that is magical. Red and green are complements and in their full saturation would hurt your eyes if they were in equal proportions. Shifting to a pale pink and graying the green a touch creates a combination that works together and brings out the beauty of both colors.
Pumpkin and Khaki
Orange can be a powerful color but in this room it is the khaki that dominates, providing an opportunity for bits of the orange to take center stage without overpowering. I bet you didn't think that fashion statement was going to translate into such a calming room did you?
Cream and Blue
Often we see blues paired with bright white but here the dark cream creates a soothing and traditional space. The shiny gray on the boots is another element that could be played up to add a more modern element.
Olive and Blue-gray
Coastal colors of blue and green never fail. Olive green is one of those surprising colors that alone, can look a little drab, but when combined with the right colors it looks fabulous.
Where do you find color inspiration? Do you struggle with how to translate your inspiration into real life? I would love to hear your thoughts.
